Biennial Update (MCS-150)

The FMCSA requires a biennial MCS-150 update, also known as the Biennial Update, at least once every two years to maintain your USDOT number. You must also file an MCS-150 update if any of the following changes occur:

  • Biennial Update (every 2 years)
  • Change of business address
  • Change of company name
  • Change in operating authority

Additional situations requiring reapplication or updates:

  • Reapplication after new entrant revocation
  • Reactivation of USDOT number
  • Becoming a hazardous materials carrier
  • Changes in the number of vehicles or drivers in your fleet
  • Notification to FMCSA that your company is no longer in operation
  • Any other modifications to your business

If you make any changes to your trucking business or operations, it's essential to submit an MCS-150 update.

(If you don’t finish your Biennial Update, your USDOT number may be deleted. You could be placed in a position, which could lead to finds up to $1,000, with the maximum of $10,000 total.
